The Blue-Eyed Knights drop a great weapon for the beginning of the game, the claymore. This strength weapon requires a good amount of levels to use, but it is well worth it. It is also worth the inevitable grind for players who are seeking to use it. It does both slashing and piercing damage at a rate of 70 physical per hit and what it lacks in pure power, it more than makes up for in speed of attack. These daggers are for players who want to get in and out of combat and rely on their dex to help them overcome the damage disadvantage.

While one might argue that this actually added to the mysterious nature of the game, the act of watching NPCs talk still feels like a definite upgrade that all future From Software games should definitely adopt. If the graphical upgrades aren’t really that much of a game-changer for a particular gamer, then these people will feel little to no difference between the original and the remake. With jaw-dropping visuals and rewarding gameplay, the Demon’s Souls remake on PS5 is the system’s first must-have exclusive game. The Uchigatana has been a standard for use at the beginning of any Souls game. Players of the series know that the Uchigatana can be found early in all three of the Dark Souls games and is a viable weapon for the entire game.

While the players take on the role of a lone knight, the developers stay true to what kind of weapons should be in their loadout. It’s that gorgeous, modern, big-budget presentation that may cause a sense of friction with players who will experience Demon’s Souls for the first time, or will do so in the context of FromSoftware’s subsequent games. Games like Dark Souls refined the formula established by Demon’s Souls, while Bloodborne and Sekiro streamlined it further. Reverting to the hallowed ground of Demon’s Souls, and its experimental and quirky gameplay rules, may feel at odds with its looks. People who push FromSoftware for easy difficulty levels in Sekiro or Dark Souls are violating the creator’s sacred right to make their work whatever they want it to be. How do you make peace between a game whose legend was forged through its downbeat double-A mysteries, through its obliqueness – and bleakness – and this, a thumping great triple-A powerhouse of a thing? Magic usage is not limited to a certain number like in Dark Souls but can be simply replenished with an item. Once you played the game for a bit you can decide yourself what suits you well – magic, swords, great swords – whatever you like. Regardless, Demon’s Souls’ incredible boss fights, fantastic world design, and brilliant use of the series’ multiplayer concepts have not aged a day.

Farming Souls

Overall, while fans will always hold on to hope for an eventual Demon’s Souls 2, it’s unlikely to happen, though I’ll happily eat my words if it does. Unfortunately, things aren’t looking great for a dedicated sequel to Demon’s Souls, despite there being high demand and a massive built-in audience. The main problem is one that fans of FromSoftware (the company responsible for all things Souls) are more than familiar with, which ultimately comes down to who owns the rights to the Demon’s Souls IP. This story will sound very familiar to anyone hoping for a Bloodborne 2, and sadly, I don’t think either game is likely to see a true sequel anytime soon. Even though the punishment for death is extreme especially without some sort of easy mode, it’s balanced because the player is given plenty of opportunities to find relief from the Demon’s Souls’ punishing nature. With the Storm Ruler, you can wipe out the flying enemies in the sky easily and collect 20,000+ souls per run.
